Gladiolus trichonemifolius

Native to South Africa's winter-rainfall Cape region, Gladiolus trichonemifolius is an Iridaceae with a globose corm about 1.5 to 2 cm across, tunicated with parallel interwoven fibres. Its slender, cylindrical stem, 15 to 45 cm tall, usually carries three narrow, rigid, sheathing leaves, the lowest often overtopping the stem. One to three yellow flowers open, with a nearly straight tube 2 to 2.5 cm long, framed by green lanceolate bracts. Like other Cape gladioli, it begins growth after the first autumn rains, flowers in late winter to spring, then enters dry summer dormancy.
