Allium globemaster

Allium 'Globemaster' is one of the most spectacular ornamental onions, a cross between Allium christophii and Allium macleanii. It produces huge, spherical umbels, sometimes over 20 cm across, densely packed with small, purplish-violet star-shaped flowers, borne on a sturdy stem around 80 cm tall. Being sterile, it sets no seed and holds its shape for a long time, even dried. Flowering occurs in late spring to early summer. It grows in full sun, well-drained soil, the bulb planted deep.
