Griffinia liboniana

Endemic to the Mata Atlântica of Brazil (Bahia and Minas Gerais states), Griffinia liboniana is a bulbous Amaryllidaceae known as the "blue amaryllis," now threatened by deforestation and over-collection. Its leathery, elliptical, dark green leaves, marked with silvery-white spots, frame a stem bearing an umbel of large lilac to violet-blue flowers. Moderate to slow-growing, the plant can flower up to three times a year under good cultivation, reaching about 40 cm overall. It needs bright but indirect light, moderate warmth, high humidity, and watering once the substrate begins to dry.
