Hedychium villosum

Hedychium villosum is a rhizomatous plant native to the Himalayas and China, grown for its cylindrical inflorescence, up to 25-30 cm long, bearing small, pale yellow flowers with a tube about 4 cm long and scarlet-red stamens. Unusually for the genus, it flowers in winter (December to April) rather than during the monsoon, and is distinguished by its sagittate anthers. A deciduous perennial, it is grown in a sheltered, bright position, in rich, well-drained soil, with a marked winter rest during which the aerial parts die back after flowering.
