Hesperantha bachmannii — Evening flower; Ballerina hesperantha
Pure white flowers, bellshaped when closed and with typically outward curved petals when opened, are arranged on a dense spike 40 cm high. Early flowering and easy to grow in pots or in open ground.
The genus
Most Hesperantha come from the bulb paradise Namaqualand in South Africa . Its name literally translated from Greek means "evening flower" because the flowers open during the evening. Most are white or creamy and have a very pleasant scent to attract the night pollinators such as moths. It is advisable to plant the small bulbs in pots.
