Hesperantha rivulicola

Described by Peter Goldblatt in 1984, Hesperantha rivulicola is known from the Northern Cape of South Africa, notably from streambeds at the foot of the Hantamsberg, as well as around Nieuwoudtville and Calvinia, between 760 and 1380 m elevation. Its epithet, "rivulicola", means "dweller of streams", reflecting its preference for damp soils near watercourses. Like other members of the genus, it is a cormous Iridaceae with hard, woody corm tunics and narrow sword-shaped leaves, producing the star-shaped flowers typical of the genus. It requires well-drained but cool, moist soil and a sunny position.
