Hesperantha vaginata
The exception to confirm the Hesperantha rule: no white flowers but a surprising combination of yellow with brown which is surely to draw attention all round. To facilitate observation opening hours are during the day. Best grown in very sheltered places ( flowers early) and preferably in open ground. If this is too much to ask try growing them in pots with very controlled watering.
The genus
Most Hesperanthas come from the bulb paradise Namaqualand in South Africa . Its name literally translated from Greek means "evening flower" because the flowers open during the evening (pollination by moths). Most are white or creamy and have a very pleasant scent to attract the night pollinators such as moths. Because of the small size is advisable to plant the bulbs in pots
