hom/spar/mor sp1

Like other unidentified accessions at this nursery, this plant belongs to a group of small, closely related South African genera in the Iridaceae family — Homeria (merged into Moraea since 1998), Moraea and Sparaxis — whose corms and foliage look similar and can only be told apart once flowering. The corm is covered in fibrous tunics, from which narrow, often pleated leaves arise. Depending on genus, flowers are either ephemeral and iris-like, marked with contrasting veins or blotches (Moraea), or star-shaped and clustered in a colourful spike (Sparaxis). Geophytes of the Cape's winter-rainfall regions; well-drained soil, full sun, dry dormancy.

  • Family :Iridaceae
