Hyacinthus

Bellevalia romana (syn. Hyacinthus romanus, Asparagaceae), the Roman hyacinth, is native to the Mediterranean Basin, growing in meadows and waste ground. In spring it forms a clump of strap-shaped leaves and a loose raceme of small, creamy-white bells with contrasting dark blue anthers, lightly and pleasantly scented, especially in the evening. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil kept dry in summer; hardy to around -15 °C, thriving in sandy or stony soils.
