Hymenocallis harrisiana

Hymenocallis harrisiana (Harris' spider lily), sometimes classified as Ismene harrisiana, is a bulbous plant native to swampy lowlands of central Mexico, notably around present-day Mexico City, growing at elevations of roughly 900-2400 m. The bulb produces low, rounded, grey-green foliage. In summer it sends up a stem bearing an umbel of delicate white flowers with long, narrow, arching tepals joined by a small central corona of fine filaments carrying orange stamens, giving a spider-like appearance. It prefers full sun to part shade, consistently moist conditions, and protection from frost below about -10°C.
