Crocus imperati (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant endemic to western Italy, notably the Naples area and Capri, growing in light woodland and dry meadows. From winter into early spring it bears large, fragrant flowers, buff striped with dark purple outside and lilac-purple inside, with a yellow or orange throat. It is one of the earliest and most free-flowering crocuses for Mediterranean gardens. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil; hardy, it appreciates a sheltered position.
