Agapanthus inapertus

Agapanthus inapertus (Agapanthaceae) is native to the highlands of northeastern South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga). It is notable for its pendulous, deep violet-blue tubular flowers that remain almost closed at the tip — hence the name 'inapertus', meaning unopened. Rigid stems 1 to 1.5 m tall bloom in late summer above deciduous strap-shaped foliage. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; this hardy plant tolerates drought once established.
