Ipomoea bona-nox

The name Ipomoea bona-nox is a synonym of Ipomoea alba, the moonflower, native to tropical and subtropical America, from Argentina to Mexico and the West Indies. It is a perennial twining vine that can climb several metres, with large, dark green, heart-shaped leaves. From summer into autumn it bears large, fragrant, funnel-shaped white flowers that open in late afternoon and close before noon the next day. Not frost-hardy, it is grown in full sun on a support, in rich soil, and is generally treated as an annual in temperate climates.
