Iris fulva, the copper iris, is a Louisiana iris native to swamps and wet woods of the lower Mississippi Valley, from Louisiana north to southern Illinois. Rhizomatous, it forms clumps of bright green sword-shaped leaves from well-branched rhizomes. In late spring, stems 60–90 cm tall bear flat, coppery to orange-red flowers, the epithet fulva ('tawny') referring to their colour. Naturally pollinated by hummingbirds, these flowers thrive in rich, consistently moist to seasonally flooded soil and full sun to partial shade, reflecting the swampy wetlands it inhabits in the wild.
