Iris giganticoerulea

Iris giganticaerulea, the giant blue iris, is a rhizomatous Iridaceae native to the marshes and wet prairies of the southern United States, in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and eastern Texas. It is the largest of the Louisiana irises, forming broad clumps of light green sword-shaped leaves. In spring, sturdy stems carry large, fragrant flowers in light blue to purple, occasionally white, with widely spreading, drooping sepals marked by a bright yellow signal. It thrives in heavy, consistently moist to waterlogged, humus-rich soil and full sun to partial shade, tolerating seasonal flooding typical of its swampy native habitat.
