Iris graminea

Widespread across southern Europe and into Russia, in meadows, grassy banks and woodland margins, Iris graminea, the grass-leaved iris, is a rhizomatous perennial in the Iridaceae. Its narrow, bright green leaves resemble those of a grass. In late spring and early summer it produces reddish-purple flowers with a distinctive scent of ripe plums, the white falls strongly veined with violet. It grows in sun to part shade, in well-drained soil, tolerating summer dryness well once established.
