Iris grant-duffi

Found in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Turkey and Iraq, Iris grant-duffii is a rhizomatous iris with brown bristle-like spines on the rhizome. Its long, grey-green, linear leaves, clearly veined and white-margined, can reach 70 cm. A short stem bears a single fragrant, pale yellow flower 4 to 7 cm across, its falls marked with irregular black spots. The species colonises deep soils that flood in winter and dry out in summer, notably in the southern Golan Heights. In cultivation it favours rich soil, a sunny position, and a pronounced summer rest.
