Iris iberica

Native to Armenia, Turkey and Iran, Iris iberica is a rhizomatous perennial of the Oncocyclus section, rarely exceeding 15 cm in height. Its large, thin, falcate leaves surround a slender stem bearing a single flower in April and May. The flower ground, white, cream or pale yellow, is finely veined or speckled with violet, mauve, purple or brown; the paler standards are lightly marked, while the darker falls bear a dark signal patch and a brown-purple beard. A plant of moderately dry habitats, it requires well-drained soil, full sun, and protection from excess winter moisture.
