Iris lazica

A close relative from Turkey's Black Sea coast which ressembles I. unguicularis. Also evergreen and rather vigorous in growth, it flowers later and has similar bright lavender flowers on shortish stems. Native to open woodland, it does all right in full sun and flowers better there, but the foliage tends to yellow in sun."

The genus

Iris is a very large genus from the Northern hemisphere with about 300 rhizomatous or bulbous species. There are 6 sub-genus, each of which is again divided in sections. Examples of subgenera: Iris (rhizomes, bearded flowers), Limniris (rhizomes, flowers without beard), Nepalensis, Xiphium (bulb), Scorpiris (Juno), Hermodactyloides (the Reticulatas).
