Iris moabitica

Iris moabitica is an Oncocyclus section iris, described relatively recently and associated with the historic region of Moab, east of the Dead Sea, in Jordan and southern Syria. It is a small rhizomatous plant adapted to semi-desert conditions, producing five to eight narrow, glaucous leaves. Its flowers, borne singly as in all Oncocyclus irises, are yellowish in tone. It grows on stony or marly soils in full sun and, like other members of this section, requires strict summer drought following early spring flowering to survive its arid native habitat.
