Iris pamphylica

Iris pamphylica belongs to the Reticulata section and is the largest species in that group. Endemic to Antalya province in southwestern Turkey (the historic region of Pamphylia), it is now considered an endangered species. A bulbous geophyte, it produces long, narrow leaves and, in spring, a bicoloured flower in shades of purple, blue or purplish-brown, the falls marked with a yellow, purple-spotted patch. Like other bulbous irises of the Near East, it requires well-drained, calcareous soil, a sunny position, and a dry summer dormancy to allow the bulb to ripen.
