Iris pseudocaucasia

Iris pseudocaucasia, whose epithet means "falsely Caucasian," is a Juno iris of western Asia, found in the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia) as well as in Iran, Iraq and Turkey. Described by Grossheim in 1916, this bulbous geophyte forms small clumps of narrow leaves and flowers early, often before the foliage is fully expanded. Like other Juno irises of the region, its flowers show a coloured crest on drooping falls. It grows on stony or rocky soils in full sun, requiring excellent drainage and a dry summer dormancy to flower reliably each year.
