Iris rosenbachiana

Iris rosenbachiana, sometimes called the "spinster iris," is a Juno iris native to Central Asia, found in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. A small bulbous geophyte 10–15 cm tall, it bears one to three long-tubed, intensely fragrant flowers per stem, 4–5 cm across. Classically described as white with deep violet markings on the drooping falls and a central orange crest, its flowers in fact range more broadly from yellow to purple or even red. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position, and a dry summer dormancy after its early flowering.
