Native to the rocky steppes and hills of Turkey, particularly the Cilicia region, Iris sari is a rhizomatous perennial belonging to the Oncocyclus section. Its sickle-shaped leaves accompany solitary flowers in cream, greenish, or yellowish tones, veined with dark purple, reddish-brown or black, with a dark maroon signal patch and a golden beard. Flowering occurs in spring. Like other Oncocyclus irises, it requires a very sunny position, perfectly drained soil, and a completely dry summer rest period after flowering.
