The genus Isophysis, in the Iridaceae family, contains a single species, Isophysis tasmanica, endemic to southwestern Tasmania, Australia. A tufted rhizomatous plant with smooth, fan-arranged linear leaves 5-30 cm long, it grows from sea level to 1300 m on siliceous rock, gravel slopes and rock crevices, within alpine sedgeland and heath. Its bronze-purple flowers open directly at ground level on short, stout stalks. It requires acidic, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and a bright position, tolerating cool, windy conditions.
