Arum italicum

Arum italicum is a tuberous perennial native to the Mediterranean basin, valued for its glossy, arrow-shaped foliage, sometimes veined with cream, which appears in autumn and persists through winter. A pale green to cream spathe opens in spring, followed in summer by a strikingly decorative but toxic spike of bright orange berries. The plant then rests until the following autumn. It is grown in cool, humus-rich soil, in part shade, under shrubs or in woodland settings, and self-seeds readily.
