Ixia campanulata

Growing on damp sandstone slopes in the Western Cape of South Africa, Ixia campanulata flowers from October to November. This cormous Iridaceae reaches 10 to 35 cm tall, with linear leaves and flowers usually deep red, occasionally white, in the bell-shaped, flared form typical of the genus. Not widely available in cultivation, it requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer dormancy.
