Ixia hybrides mélangé

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
This mixed-colour selection brings together Ixia hybrids, a cormous genus native to the winter-rainfall regions of South Africa, where 40 to 50 wild species occur. In spring and early summer, wiry stems up to 60 cm tall carry long, loose spikes of star-shaped, six-tepalled flowers in a wide range of colours (white, yellow, orange, pink, red, mauve), often with a contrasting centre. The foliage is narrow and sword-shaped. Not reliably hardy, ixias need well-drained soil, full sun and winter protection in cold climates.
