Ixia ‘Marquette »

Ixia 'Marquette' is a cultivar of the genus Ixia, a cormous plant of the family Iridaceae native to South Africa. It produces narrow, sword-shaped leaves, and a stiff stem bearing a spike of star-shaped flowers, cream to pale yellow, marked with a distinct purple-black eye at the centre. Flowering occurs in spring, each spike remaining decorative for several weeks. Like other Ixia, it goes through a winter growth cycle: foliage develops in the cool season, flowering happens in early summer, followed by a dry summer rest. It likes a sunny position and light, well-drained soil.
