Ixia ‘Marquette »

Ixia 'Marquette' is a cultivar of Ixia, a cormous plant in the iris family native to South Africa. It produces narrow, sword-shaped leaves and a wiry stem bearing a spike of star-shaped, cream to pale lemon flowers marked with a distinct dark purple-black eye at the center. Flowering occurs in spring, each spike remaining decorative for several weeks. Like other Ixia, it follows a winter growth cycle: foliage develops in the cool season, flowering begins in early summer, followed by a dry summer rest. It grows well in full sun and light, well-drained soil.
