Ixia paucifolia

Endemic to South Africa, Ixia paucifolia is rarely collected, most records being old; its flowering, stimulated by fire, may go unnoticed where the vegetation is not burned often enough. This cormous Iridaceae has tunics of coarse, woody fibres. The flowers are pale beige, with oblong tepals 11-15 x 3.0-4.5 mm, and a relatively long tube, a feature that distinguishes it from related species with more finely fibrous tunics. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
