Ixia thomasiae

Endemic to the Roggeveld in South Africa's Cape Province, Ixia thomasiae grows on stony clay slopes and flats. This Iridaceae reaches 40-80 cm, with linear leaves and a slender stem bearing short, nodding branches that give it a habit reminiscent of a miniature Dierama. Funnel-shaped pink flowers, with spreading tepals and partly exserted stamens, open in spring. Like other Ixia species, it needs full sun, well-drained soil and a dry summer rest to flower well.
