Libertia ixioides, known as mikoikoi in Māori, is a perennial in the iris family (Iridaceae), endemic to New Zealand (North, South and Stewart Islands). It forms tidy clumps of stiff, sword-shaped foliage, bright green turning bronze or gold in cold weather or full sun, reaching about 60 cm. In spring it bears small, starry white flowers with golden centers held above the foliage, followed by decorative orange seed capsules that persist into autumn and winter. It is grown in full sun to part shade on well-drained soil, and tolerates moderate frost.
