Kniphofia galpinii

Kniphofia galpinii, the Galpin red-hot poker, is native to South Africa and Eswatini, growing in mountain grassland. Smaller than most other Kniphofia, it forms a clump of narrow, bright green leaves up to about 60 cm, from which slender, wiry stems arise. In summer and early autumn it bears a dense terminal spike of flame-red to orange tubular flowers. A perennial with a fleshy rootstock, it grows in full sun on well-drained soil kept moist during the growing season, and tolerates drought well once established.
