Lachenalia aloides x vanzyliae

This hybrid combines Lachenalia aloides and Lachenalia vanzyliae, two bulbous South African species in the family Asparagaceae, native to the winter-rainfall regions of the Western Cape. Like its parents, it forms a clump of fleshy, strap-shaped leaves, sometimes mottled purple, and a stem bearing a dense raceme of pendulous, tubular flowers in shades of yellow, green and orange to red, depending on the influence of each parent. Flowering occurs in late winter and spring. It grows well in full sun, in well-drained soil, with a complete dry summer rest period.
