Lachenalia bulbifera

Very early flowering with dark red tubular flowers. Produces many small bulblets on the stem and the side of the leav es. Ideal for growing in pots.
The genus
There are numerous species of Lachenalia (all from the Cape, South Africa). All make an excellent pot plant: decorative foliage, long lasting wax like flowers during the winter months and they grow well in pots. Use a light sandy mix and plant in August on reception of the bulbs. Foliage soon emerges after the first watering; keep them frostfree . Repot the bulbs every year. Flowering order: L. bulbifera, L. aloides 'Pearsonii' and 'Aurea', L. pustulata, L. pallida., L contaminata.
