Lachenalia carnosa

Lachenalia carnosa is a bulbous species native to the Western Cape province of South Africa, where it grows in arid, low-vegetation habitats. Its bulb produces one or two broad, oval, fleshy leaves, held almost flat against the ground and lightly spotted, which give the species its epithet 'carnosa.' From late winter to early spring it bears small bell-shaped flowers, white tipped with magenta, clustered along a short spike. A typical winter-growing Cape species, it requires well-drained sandy soil, full sun, and a completely dry summer dormancy.
