LACHENALIA GENERAL

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
The genus
There are numerous species of Lachenalia (all from the Cape, South Africa), but in general their morphology is quite alike. All make an excellent pot plant: decorative foliage, long lasting wax like flowers during the winter months and they grow well in pots. Use a light sandy mix and plant in August on reception of the bulbs. Foliage soon emerges after the first watering; keep them frostfree and bring them indoors as soon as the flowers appear. Repot the bulbs every year. Flowering order: L. bulbifera, L. aloides 'Pearsonii' and 'Aurea', L. pustulata, L. pallida.
