Lachenalia glaucina

Native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa, where it grows on stony ground in the winter-rainfall region, Lachenalia glaucina is a small bulbous plant of the Hyacinthaceae family. Its fleshy white bulb produces strap-shaped leaves each autumn, plain green or speckled. Between September and November it bears a spike of sessile, fragrant, turquoise to purplish-blue cylindrical flowers, the outer tepals marked with dark blue to purple gibbosities, the inner tepals white to blue. Frost-tender, it requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a completely dry summer dormancy.
