Lachenalia liliflora

Endemic to a small area of the Western Cape (between Durbanville and Paarl, South Africa), Lachenalia liliflora is a critically endangered species now reduced to three known populations, growing on renosterveld slopes. Its fleshy bulb, about the size of a large marble, bears two strap-shaped leaves, often pustulate, up to 15 cm long. In mid to late spring, as the leaves are already yellowing, a scape up to 25 cm tall carries delicate, bell-shaped creamy-white flowers with magenta tips. It requires well-drained soil and a dry summer rest.
