Lachenalia rubida

Now placed under Lachenalia punctata (the name rubida having been superseded in 2012 by priority of the name punctata), this Hyacinthaceae is native to the sandy flats of the Western and Southwestern Cape, South Africa. An early winter-flowering bulb (March to July), it has pink-spotted foliage and spike-borne, tubular to urn-shaped flowers of highly variable colour - from spotted pink to green - often scented, reflecting its kinship with hyacinths. Like other Lachenalia, it becomes dormant in summer and requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
