Lapeirousia BB sp

This plant, not identified to species level, belongs to the genus Lapeirousia (Iridaceae), around thirty species distributed across sub-Saharan Africa, with a strong concentration in the fynbos and semi-arid areas of Namaqualand and the northwestern Cape. The corm is bell-shaped or triangular with a flat base and dense woody fibres; leaves are flat and curved, or narrow and pleated. The flowers, on short stems, have a long narrow tube opening into a six-lobed star, colours varying by species from creamy white to red or purple, often marked with contrasting patterns. Requires well-drained soil, full sun and dry summer dormancy.
