Lapeirousia divarcata

Endemic to the northwestern Cape of South Africa, from the Bokkeveld Escarpment to Citrusdal, Lapeirousia divaricata grows in damp sandy ground. This cormous Iridaceae, 7 to 25 cm tall, produces a single linear to sword-shaped leaf. The fragrant white to pale pink flowers bear dark pink to red streaks on the lower tepals; the lateral tepals are reflexed while the upper segment remains erect. Flowering occurs in late winter and spring. It requires sandy soil, moist in winter but well drained, and a sunny position.
