Lapeirousia pyramidalis

Endemic to South Africa's Cape provinces, Lapeirousia pyramidalis grows on clay-shale flats and slopes of the Karoo, Little Karoo and interior renosterveld, extending into southern Namibia. This cormous Iridaceae reaches only 5-10 cm tall, with linear, strongly ribbed leaves held horizontally. In winter and spring (July-September), a short, dense spike bears small tubular flowers, whitish to pale blue or pink-tinged, and fragrant. The plant becomes dormant in summer to survive heat and drought. It requires full sun and sharply drained soil.
