The precise species of this Lapeirousia collected near Vanrhynsdorp (Western/Northern Cape, South Africa) could not be confirmed with certainty; the description is therefore given at genus level. Lapeirousia is a cormous Iridaceae genus endemic to sub-Saharan Africa, about a third of its species growing in fynbos, notably in Namaqualand and the northwestern Cape, on sandy or rocky soils. The corm is bell-shaped or triangular with a flat base, wrapped in compacted fibres. Leaves are flat or narrow and pleated, and the zygomorphic, cylindrical-tubed flowers come in white, blue, violet or red. Grow in well-drained soil, in full sun.
