Ledebouria sp ?mauve

This unidentified accession belongs to the genus Ledebouria (Asparagaceae), which includes around sixty bulbous species from sub-Saharan Africa, with a few representatives in India and Madagascar. Ledebouria species form small rosettes of fleshy leaves, often spotted or mottled with purple, growing from a tunicated bulb. The flowering stem carries a loose raceme of small, star-shaped flowers marked with a central green stripe on each tepal; the accession code suggests a mauve colouring, distinct from the more common greenish-yellow or pink forms. Flowering occurs in spring and summer. Cultivation requires well-drained soil, bright light, and reduced watering during dormancy.
