Leptochiton ssp?

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
The exact species meant by this "Leptochiton sp." label could not be confirmed, so the description is given at genus level. Leptochiton is a small South American genus of Amaryllidaceae with only two species (the type, L. quitoensis, and L. helianthus), native to Ecuador and northern Peru and closely related to Ismene and Hymenocallis. These are bulbous geophytes of seasonally dry tropical habitats, notable within their tribe for phytomelanous (black, hard-coated) seeds. Poorly documented in cultivation, the genus presumably needs free-draining soil, a warm, bright position, and a pronounced dry dormancy.
