Leucojum / Acis automnale

Widespread around the western Mediterranean, from Portugal and Spain to Morocco, and as far as Sicily and Tunisia, this species was long classified in the genus Leucojum (L. autumnale) before its transfer to Acis, the two genera having been confused. A bulbous plant 10–15 cm tall, it produces narrow foliage after flowering. From September to November it bears small, white, bell-shaped nodding flowers tinged pink at the base, borne in clusters of two to five, with three-toothed outer tepals. It requires a sunny position, well-drained, gritty soil, and dry summer dormancy.
