Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’ (/100) — Niveole, snowflakes
The bulbs, its leaves, and also the method of cultivation are very much like those of the Narcissus, and could be easily confused with until the white bellshaped flowers appear, which will last over a very long period. L. æstivum is found all over Europe and the near East in mostly humid and wooded habitats. Very suitable for naturalising in gardens with that kind of environment. The selection 'Gravetye Giant' has much larger flowers than the orginal species. This form was found at the Gravetye manor, a beautiful elizabethian manor in Sussex UK
The genus
A genus from Europe and the méditerrean basin, where it is often found lightly shaded woodland in rather humid areas. The look of the plant and its cultivation is very similar to Narcissus, but they always have white pendulous flowers.
