The genus Lilium comprises around one hundred bulbous species from the Northern Hemisphere, in the Liliaceae family. An upright stem clothed in lance-shaped leaves bears one or several large trumpet-, bowl- or turk's-cap-shaped flowers at its tip, often fragrant and boldly coloured. Flowering occurs in summer. As the exact species is not specified for this item, this description remains at genus level: lilies grow in rich, cool, well-drained soil, in sun or part shade depending on the species, with the bulb planted fairly deep.
