Lilium longiflorum ‘Gelria’

Lilium longiflorum, the Easter lily, is a scaly-bulbed geophyte native to Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands (Japan), widely grown as a cut flower and spring pot plant. The stem, 50 to 100 cm tall, bears lance-shaped leaves and large, pure white, strongly fragrant trumpet flowers held at a near-horizontal angle, flowering in summer in the open ground (or forced in winter-spring under cultivation). 'Gelria' is a Dutch floricultural selection valued for its vigour and classic trumpet flower quality; detailed documentation on the exact origin of this cultivar is scarce. It requires rich, well-drained soil and a sunny position.
